This is not the end!

So I guess most of you have read Zetas's announcement. For those of you who havent: http://darkholdings....llthefish.html. In short, Zetas, who has not only been a kick-ass admin on Globalshellz, but who also supported us with many servers, has had to pull the plug. We all feel sorry for him.
What does this mean for Globalshellz? Well, atm it primarily means i have a shitton of work with moving all services to our last stronghold, our old EU server which is hosted by Notepad. All services will move to that one box.
This will also mean that resources are more scarce than they ever were, so we will be monitoring the load, and we might be forced to impose limits on cpu/mem usage later on.
I have also taken the decision to only allow IRC over ipv6 on old EU. We have to be realistic in the fact that we are piggy-backing on Notepad's home connection from now on.
As always, I am present on IRC if you have any questions/suggestions.
brabo.

- Redundant LDAP Cluster
- Loadbalanced LDAP cluster for redundant login availability and increased login speed
- New Dev Service and Servers
- A new cluster of debian servers for development only, no IRC bots or bouncers allowed. Members that choose this service will be granted access to all programming languages/sdk's, a much larger quota, and more process allowed. Details will be on the wiki soon. Initially you will have to pick one or other (your existing gshellz server with irc or the new cluster with no irc bots or bouncers, though irc clients are allowed) but eventually we may allow senators to use both systems, stay tuned on that one.
- New dedicated server for US
- The US server is the oldest server in our stable. It's an underpowered vmware slice sitting on my hardware in a colo in atlanta, but our new system is a dedicated box leased from Atlas Networks in Seattle, WA. The server stats will be up on the wiki soon. We hope to have all US members migrated to this server this weekend, we will launch early next week hopefully with minimal downtime.

MUD Project
Jun 28 2011 09:00 PM | brabo in Home
As some of you know, we have recently started building a MUD. After alot of trying out we decided to go with the Dead Souls LPMudLib. Since we are building up a world from scratch, the MUD is still under heavy construction, but it is already playable.
For those interested in the MUD, there is a new subforum for all MUD-related talk: http://www.globalshe...g/forum/25-mud/
We also have a side-channel on freenode, #gshellz-mud. Feel free to join any time.
MUD server: mud.gshellz.org port 9997

Downtime
Mar 21 2011 05:00 AM | Zetas in Home
We are going to bring the US server down for maintenance today at 11AM EST. This is to facilitate a full sync of users data to the EU server as well as an upgrade to the US servers operating system. We expect the downtime to last no longer than 2 hours, but in reality it should be much quicker. We've done everything we can without actually taking the server down.
I know we initially planned on taking the US server down after the EU server was up and running but we would have had to put the US server in maintenance mode (no ssh logins) anyway to facilitate a full and accurate sync of data (cant have people writing to files as we copy them) and we figured we might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Wiki Update
Mar 15 2011 05:00 AM | Zetas in Home
This is the quarter of updates! I'm just giving everyone a heads up, the wiki has been updated to the latest version, we skipped quite a few in between. I hope to do security updates on a quicker bases but we are pretty swamped with everything else that needs to be done.
